In the late 1980s, the Association of Irish Composers launched a print magazine called The Irish Composer, which featured analyses and reviews of works by both Irish and international composers, written by members of the AIC. In our first installment of a new series revisiting these archives, we are re-publishing an article by the late Gerard Victory (1921-1995), who wrote an introduction and analysis to his major requiem cantata Ultima Rerum for the magazine's first issue. The full work was released on the Naxos label in 1994, and an excerpt from the recording can be heard on the CMC website.
